A passport is a very important document. It should be kept upto date by renewing it before it expires. Its loss should be reported immediately to the local police authorities and also to the nearest Indian Embassy / Consulate General.If the passport is already ten years old and has finally expired, a new passport will be issued. The forms for fresh applications of Indian passports and for issuance of new passport booklets are different and appropriate forms are required to be filled in.

  Document's Required

• Applicant's ration card or anyone of the following document : appointment letter of reputed companies on letter head/water tax/telephone bill/electricity bill running bank account etc./Income Tax Assessment order of last three years/Election Commision I.D.card.
• Proof of Date of Birth.
• Citizenship document if applicant is a citizen of India by Registration or Naturalisation.
• If the applicant as not continuously stayed at the persent address for the last one year, please photocopy the ''Person perticulars Form'' and enclose an addtional set (in duplicate with photographs) for each addtional place of residence.

  Photographs

• Eight identical photographs in black and white or in colour of 35mm x 35mm showing frontal view of full face against a light background are required.
• Photos taken with coloured or dark glasses and in uniform will not be accepted.

  Issuance Of Passport Under Tatkaal Scheme

An applicant desiring to obtain his passport out of turn in view of any emergency should submit necessary documentation alongwith tatkaal fee substantiating the urgency. In case the applicant wishes to obtain his passport in less than five weeks from the date of submission of the application form a verification certificate should also be submitted along with the documentation of urgency and the tatkaal fee. The additional fee for out of turn Tatkaal passport, would be as follows:

  Duplicate Passports

The issuance of duplicate passports in lieu of lost or damaged passports is handled under a special procedure. A duplicate passport can only be issued to an applicant on confirmation of the particulars of the lost passport from the original Passport Issuing Authority and receipt of the clearance of the Ministry of External Affairs. All applicants for duplicate passports must fill out.
